The show included Victor Currie, leading the band
on saxophone and clarinet - he also provided the jazzy vocals. Tom Currie played
soprano and tenor saxophone, and former Armagh resident, ‘gentleman’ John
McArdle, played trombone.
The toe-tapping programme was a musical tour of the generations. A well-packed
audience heard classics of the swing era - Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and gems
of New Orleans blues and jazz; not to mention rock ‘n roll hits of the
sixties.
Victor is a teacher of music at Dromore High School in County Down - his band is
in demand for concerts, dances and wedding receptions throughout the Province.
“Our motto is,” he smiled: “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that
swing. Our brand of jazz, blues and swing proves popular with all age groups
nowadays.”
