| Writing
We do not expect children to write before
they come to school but some are keen to do so. If your child is one
of these it would help greatly if you could teach your child exactly
as we do in school. The little arrows show the direction the pencil
should move and the dot indicates where each letter begins. Please
only use a capital for the first letter of your child's name

| INFORMATION
FOR A NEW PRIMARY ONE PUPILS |
The
beginning of a school career for any child is a big step and for many
a daunting one. Contained over the next few pages are a number of
illustrations of pre school preparations that we feel would help roost
pupils settle into a school routine.
| Will
you be able to do these things before September |
Take
off'/put on your coat and hang it up |
| If you
want to, you may bring something, to eat at break time; but it
must be something you can eat quickly - perhaps a biscuit or
.an apple. If you bring a drink to school make sure that the
container cannot break. Mummy should not put your juice in
your school bag - it might leak on to your books. |
| Some children have a
dinner in school. Can you use a knife and fork? Some children
bring sandwiches and some go home for lunch. |
Use
your handkerchief or tissue |
Go to the toilet and
wash your hands by yourself. We have paper towels in school. |
If you bring money to
school it should always be in a sealed envelope with your name
class, amount and what it is for written on it.
| You will need your name
on all your belongings. Then the teacher will know if they get
lost or mixed up with your friends' belongings. |
You will need a bag to
keep your gym shoes in. Perhaps your mummy could make one for
you.

Mummy should check your
school bag every day. You might bring home a picture or a
letter from your teacher.
