Peter
Peter McClelland - A Special Warden in a Special Place

It has been a pleasure for me to have been afforded the opportunity of visiting Peter on Coney's Island... and to listen to Peter as he relates his ever expanding knowledge on the island - its history - its folklore and its natural history.

I have known Peter now for a few years and indeed realise that if ever a position in life was made for someone then warden of Coney Island was for Peter. He is proud of his island - an island with many jewels. Peter particularly loves the few days in the year when the carpet of bluebells gives of its scent and early rises present the experience of the bats returning to their roosts after a night of hunting the many flies.

Peter's labour of love has already shown wonderful changes to the paths and picnic areas around the island and he has plans to enhance this wonderful asset of Craigavon Borough Council. I would imagine that eventually Peter will research and discover the many questions that he continually asks himself about the remaining mysteries of the island and I know he awaits with interest some recent research on the bat colonies. As Peter unfolds the various enigmas his answers may be unveiled on these pages.

For now I wish Peter a long and happy stay on Coney Island convinced that any visitors who stray of the normal tourist paths to find Coney island will take with them home a special sparkle for their holiday memories. It will be a permanent feature for any visitors I personally have and I already have shown Coney to my friends from Belarus and Algeria.
