After supporting the little
orphans of
Andhra Pradeshfor
4 years, we were able to visit in 2007. The need for a home for the
children was urgent. 33 Tsunami Orphans were homeless, and destitute,
because of the Tsunami that hit the Bay of Bengal, and they had a fire
which burnt down the humble breeze block building, and then when we
rented a building it was flooded by a Cyclone, that utterly destroyed
the buildings. We have paid for a brand new building to be built. We are
paying for a teacher’s wages, so the children can have extra tuition in
the Home. The water Buffalo we bought, are now calving, so more buffalo
are on the way. Milk is being sold, so the money will help toward the
cost of rice, which is the basic diet. Earlier this year we put on a
meeting for all the local villages. We supplied the money for food to
feed over 270 people, as we entertained then with our songs, dances, and
stories of life in UK. We held counselling sessions, where 100s of women
came to tell us about their illnesses and their poverty. Giribabu and
his wife and two sons, are living in the new building. They are looking
after the 33 children. We provide all their uniforms and shoes. We left
medical supplies, and toiletries, and educational supplies. We are still
in the process of buying the land across the way from the home, as the
children have no where to play. We need to finish the upstairs of the
building, so that will be the next stage of this project.
I can never really say, or
know what the little support we are sending is actually doing for the
wider community. The man looking after the water buffalos, has a job. 37
people have a home. A teacher has a job. The Community will have some
very grounded young people growing up in their area, with potentials of
becoming Presidents, and Ambassadors, and Farmers. So we continue until
we’re finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!when ever that is....
