NET WORKING

Networking is extremely important but we must demystify it first.  It is obviously not a panacea but certainly a way to establish alternative means of cooperation. These different ways of working together will continue to lead the creation of more different networks, where solidarity and respect are needed so that competition doe not become destructive.  NPI believes networking is more important than the networks them selves and the problem at hand.

We use networking due to its synergistic effect where by the total effect of things done together is greater than the sum of individual activities.

Through networking NPI intends to achieve the following;

q       Strengthen and reinforce the advocacy plan.

q       Influence others both within and without the network

q       Broaden the understanding of the need for peace-building by  bringing together different partners.

q       Share the responsibilities in relation to capacity and resource competences and also reduce duplication of resources and efforts.

q       Promote the exchange of ideas, insights , experiences and skills in the area of peace-building.

q       To generate a sense of national and international solidarity for moral and psychological support in the struggle of building a culture of peace.

q       To mobilize resources, financial or otherwise to support and strengthen the capacity of NPI.

NETWORKING ACTIVITIES

Building alliances with others involves the following activities;

1.  Generating and sharing information and analysis.

Networks provide a structure for members to establish and maintain essential communication with each other.  NPI intends to exchange and analyze information to achieve its goals and objectives.

2.  Advocacy

Networks coordinate advocacy action on matters of mutual concern to members. NPI through its networks intends to influence the season matters both within and without the networks

3.  Skills and capacity buildings

Both formal and informal opportunities are provided for enhancement of skills.  Informally there is a benefit for general information and experience sharing.

Formally, skills are increased through workshops and seminars, also production of educational tools such as manuals, resource guides etc. is made possible.

4.  Solidarity building

Networks are mindful of the need to build a sense of solidarity among members so that they are better able to achieve their goals and objectives. Therefore, NPI actively seeks for solidarity building to be able to realize its aims and objectives.

NETWORKING STRATEGY

To be able to carry out information generation, analysis and sharing, advocacy, skills and capacity building NPI  intends       to use the following strategy.

i)                   Meetings with members of networks in communities and civil society

ii)                 Sharing information through different media e.g. radio, T.V, newsletters, journals, bulletins, e-mail and Internet.

iii)               Organizing and attending stakeholder seminars and conferences
