EDUCATION

Humanity faces challenges of unprecedented proportions such as continued development of weapons of mass destruction, conflicts between states and ethnic groups, community violence, racism, the huge widening gap between the rich and the poor, massive violation of human rights and the degradation of the environment all rooted in diversity. One of the solutions to avert a fight for dominance, which could lead to conflict and consequential breakdown of peace, lies in integrated teaching of peace to foster the promotion of tolerance and improve world order.

The campaign for peace education at community levels is intended to encourage critical thinking and promote human dignity through making learners act on their convictions, which can better serve as an ultimate solution where international interventions cannot be a reality.

NPI understands that promoting values relating to peace and non violence as opposed to the traditional pedagogical approaches of teachers, coupled to the problems of high levels of school dropouts in early formal education process, poorly trained and remunerated teachers, lack of resources and differing work environments for dropouts, education for peace need to take place (or possess elements of) within and without schools, thus our strategy to peace education.
